The Studio and Foundry
Ancient Alchemy and Digital Precision in North Norfolk.
Based on the North Norfolk coast, my studio operates as a highly specialised, direct-to-client sculpture atelier, designing and crafting unique, non-editioned works in bronze and other metals.
The sculptures explore themes of imperfection, transition, and emotional resonance. Inspired by organic structures and the raw atmosphere of the windswept East Coast, my practice captures the subtle beauty within moments of change, whether between physical states, shifting environments or evolving internal landscapes. Through tactile texture and heavy permanence, each piece seeks to reveal the significance embedded in the ephemeral.
Site-Specific Commissions
Every setting carries its own light, scale and sightlines. The sculptures in the Catalogue serve as points of departure—tangible benchmarks for bespoke works conceived specifically for your interior architecture or landscape. Explore the comprehensive Commissioning Guide to understand how we collaborate from initial site appraisal through fabrication to final installation, shaping an original, one-of-a-kind presence tailored precisely to its environment.
The Foundry Floor: 35 Years in the Fire
The studio is built on more than thirty-five years of daily foundry practice and direct metalworking. Every core stage of the sculptural process is held entirely in my hands, defined by the roar of the furnace and the heavy physical labour of lost-wax investment casting.
Each work is cast, chased and textured by hand using carbide burrs, repoussé punches and matting chisels. Days of relentless direct tooling refine every plane, from mirror polished bevels to deeply eroded, geological textures. The journey culminates in applied chemical patination, layering a wide range or reactive chemicals with the torch until the metal blooms with an unrepeatable surface history, permanently sealed under microcrystalline wax or architectural sealants.
The Hybrid Workflow: Engineering the Monumental
While the soul of the work remains rooted in the crucible, the studio’s engineering methodology is uncompromisingly modern. Moving an idea from a sketchbook page to a multi-meter structural installation requires mathematical rigor.
We operate an advanced digital-to-physical pipeline. Hand-sculpted maquettes and organic studies are digitised via high-resolution photogrammetry, refined in 3D CAD environments and engineered for structural load and environmental resilience. Before an ingot is melted or an internal armature is TIG-welded, clients and specifiers can visualise the sculpture within photorealistic renders of their exact architectural setting or landscape.
Complete Authorship: The Direct Atelier
I operate outside the traditional gallery system by design.
Supported by a dedicated atelier team managing technical fabrication and project coordination, I maintain absolute authorship over every phase of a commission. From initial 3D visualisation and direct investment patterns through to structural TIG-welding, hand-chasing, patination and custom archival crating, each work is developed in direct dialogue with the client.
This unmediated model guarantees that every commission is a true 1/1 unique work, free from artificial editions, executed with total material integrity and built to outlast us all.
