Sculpture in the Making: A collaborative Journey - Arit Anderson and Parkinson’s UK.

For the past few months, my studio has been a place of intense craft and quiet contemplation. I have been immersed in a singular collaboration with garden designer Arit Anderson and Parkinson’s UK to design and produce a sculpture for her upcoming Main Avenue garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2026.

Working under Arit’s guidance has been a deeply collaborative process, shaped by constant conversation and shared ideas. From the start, she was keen to move away from the traditional idea of a static, heavy monument. Instead, Arit challenged me to design something that explores the concept of a permanent frame for an ever shifting journey. The goal was to ensure the artwork acts as a living, breathing part of the environment and not just a fixture sitting on a plinth, but a piece that offers a point of reference and changes alongside the plants and the light.

The result of Arit’s vision is a modern and unexpected form that has transitioned from initial concept to cast bronze and is currently in its final stages of refinement. At this stage in the studio, the work is defined by its continuous and unbroken line. This single, fluid path serves as a powerful symbol of enduring strength and resilience, mirroring the spirit of the community the garden represents. I am spending a lot of time now focusing on the delicate interplay between the solid bronze and the sculpted voids. This balance was something Arit championed from the very beginning, she wanted the negative spaces within the sculpture to be just as important as the metal itself, a kind window for the garden.

The sculpture is designed to provide a sense of rhythm and solace through its sweeping curves, offering a moment of quiet enlightenment as the sun moves across it, creating an ever-changing interplay of light and shadow. Most importantly, it acts as a physical anchor for those navigating their own shifting journeys. It is a solid, grounded presence in an unpredictable world.

As the final finish is applied and the bronze finds its permanent weight, we are preparing for the sculpture to leave the studio and take its place within the garden. Soon, this active geometry will begin its real work, playing a supporting role by framing a world of botanical beauty and providing a true sanctuary for reflection for Parkinson’s UK.

The journey from the heat of the furnace to the peace of the garden is nearly complete. After months of sketching, molding, and casting, seeing the work finally integrated into the soil and surroundings of Main Avenue will be a profound moment. I am so excited to see how the sculpture plays its part in the final composition of Arit’s masterpiece and how it connects with the people who visit.
